Glory, Glory, Glory…
Last Sunday afternoon was one of those typical Vancouver foggy days, and as I made my drive up the mountain, the fog began to roll in rapidly. By the time I turned on to my street, it had engulfed the whole block and visibility was extremely poor. My main concern at that moment was to get out of this treacherous road into the safety of my home. And as I pulled into my driveway, I saw something unusual out of the corner of my eye.
It was surreal .. … I could only imagine how Moses had felt when he saw the bush on fire only to realize that it did not burn up. It was exactly that sense of extra-ordinary in something so common and ordinary. I was stunned by what I saw…
There on top of the houses behind the tall trees, a “speck” of light was trying to break through the misty sky. A I got out to investigate, the sight literally took my breath away. For there amongst the trees, a tiny pin hole of light appeared, and before you know it, the whole mountain top was surrounded by this big circle of light, like a giant halo. The light radiated through this tiny opening between the trees and lit up the sky with this brilliance. It looked like heaven had opened up and any time soon the Son of Man will be coming across the sky with the heavenly hosts…..
“The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being…
…and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.
The armies of heaven were following him, riding on white horses and dressed in fine linen, white and clean. ”
I waited, and wondered….” is this it??”
and I waited…for that moment…..
and before I could take another breath, the sky was once again blanketed by a heavy layer of mist…
but that image is forever seared in my mind.
Before this brief encounter, my mind had been filled with to-do lists, problems to solve, things I needed to tackle for the coming week. I was very focused on the things of God (yes, it did sound so righteous) but if I had not taken time to stop and look up, I would have missed this show case of His magnificence. Sadly, this is the reality for most of us, as we get so busy with Kingdom business that we often miss the King Himself. We are so occupied with ministries that we sometimes forget Who we are serving. We are so earthly focused that we can lose sight of Heaven.
And all it takes is one moment to adjust our vision on the only thing that matters.
“Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. 2 Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. 3 For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. 4 When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.” Colossians 3
