A Prayer for the New Year
2013 was definitely an eventful year:
I experienced excitement as I finally got to travel to Europe.
Thankfulness when my children’s business grew…
and gratitude when I saw the hand of God in their lives.
Joyousness when we got another new family member…
sorrow and pain when we lost another loved one.
I had my faith in humanity tested; found myself in challenging and aggravating circumstances. In general, the year has been tumultuous and I am really looking forward to a new year and a beginning.
As I look back the year I definitely see the fingerprints of God in my lives in those good moments and even not so good ones. However, the defining moment in 2013 did not come from an earth shattering sermon, or from a soul wrenching passage , but from an ordinary man at a gas station:
I can recall the incident with clarity: it was during a late afternoon on a wet chilly day. I had just finished with the fill up at the gas station and ready to get on my way, and this quiet man who barely speak any English, reached through the window with the receipt and said:
“God loves you and your family!”
Those surprising words lifted my spirit instantly and first time in a long while, I felt truly blessed. This feeling of blessedness has sustained me during a despairing time and even now warms my heart and my soul. Who would have guessed that these powerful words had come from an ordinary man.
While I look forward to a new year, the words of this man ring in my ears. As I have been blessed by these simple words I know in my heart I need to pay it forward and be intentional to bless others as well. So on this first day of the new year, I have no resolution but a prayer that I will be a channel for His blessings in the coming year.
“Father, I praise and thank You for You have blessed me in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessings in Christ, I pray that as You bless me, I will bless others. Amen”
