So this is Christmas….
I am so DONE with Christmas shopping !! I don’t mean I am one of those organized people who got all their presents by July, what I am saying is that I refuse to do any more Christmas shopping. So if you are expecting a gift from me this year, you might be disappointed..
Last week I had purposely gone to the mall on a weekday morning thinking it would be quiet and peaceful. I started the day with a visit to my favorite coffee shop in a cheerful Christmas mood. As I waited in line I thought it would be NICE if I let the person behind to go ahead, since he looked like he was in a rush, only to get a dirty look and a grunt in return. Well, so much for being nice !
Then I proceeded to go to a store to pick up a couple of things for my family. And when I went up to the counter to pay, there was a customer there trying to exchange her items for something that was not in the store. I waited patiently for almost 15 minutes while the clerk and the manager helped her. As I was waiting, this little old lady came up and stood by my side. After she gave me a glance, she began to inch slowly in front of me. Every time when she did that, I would move forward a bit to make sure that she knew that I was the next in line. We kept up with this dance for a while until we were almost touching the back of the first customer, and I finally turned and looked at her “Excuse me, but I have been standing here in line for almost 20 minutes, you need to line up behind me.” And then she replied sweetly, ” oh I did not see you standing there, I guess I will stand behind you then!”. The last time I checked myself in the mirror I know I am not a small person, nor the size of a flea. Her response made me so furious and instantly developed what I would call Mall Rage.
Later that evening on the late news, a reporter asked a six-year-old girl what she wants for Christmas, and instead of toys and clothes she asked for an ipad and laptop !! She really does not want much !!
…….So this is Christmas then…. as greed and materialism turned people to miserable creatures , and the real meaning of Christmas is lost…
And then couple nights ago a young man jumped to his death from the seventh floor of a shopping mall after a heated argument with his girl friend over her Christmas shopping spree. An eye-witness said he told her she had enough shoes for a life time and no reason to buy more. The girl friend got mad and accused him of spoiling her Christmas, he got so frustrated that he threw down the bags ,jumped over the railing and died instantly!
News like that made me very sad, and shows how much we need Jesus.
We desperately need Him to save us from ourselves. And without CHRISTmas we have no hope.
