I have been plagued by a sore throat for almost a week and been given numerous remedies by helpful friends and neighbors. The most popular one is the salted kumquats, they are tiny little orange fruits preserved in salt and served crushed with a teaspoon of its brine in hot water. I have done some research online and am convinced of its effectiveness. As kumquats are in season , I went and bought a bag to make my own. All I have to do is put the washed and air-dried fruits layered with coarse salt in a clean glass jar and let them sit till they turn brown.
As I look at the pretty glass jar with the fruits peeking out of the white salt, these words from Matthew 5:13 came to my mind:
“You are the salt of the earth….”
Salt, as I learned from my preserved kumquats, is to
bring out the goodness of the fruits…..
for the preservation to work the jar is to be kept in a dark place.
And I am called to be the salt of the earth.
