Cold. Hard. Truth.
I just discovered that I am officially old.
The other day I went to Michael’s to pick up some supplies for my craft project, and as I walked into the store I saw this promotion for Senior’s Discount day. It said right there in great big letters that anyone who is 55 and above is entitled to a 10 percent discount. I was quite rattled when I saw that poster, because according to it, I am A SENIOR !! This is the first time ever I have been told that. Granted I could have gotten a 10 percent discount that morning, but pride got in the way and I do not want to admit the truth !
If any thing, truth always hurt. It points you towards the inescapable reality. I mean I can dress young, talk young and act young but the undeniable fact is I am as old as I am supposed to be. Truth sometimes can be cold and hard….and when it stares down at us unapologetically, we are tempted to justify it; deny it; defend it or trivialize it. All because it reveals to us what we don’t want to see.
Truth came not to pacify nor to appease, He came to convict and reveal. For His truth is sharper than “any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.”
Even truth is a bitter pill to swallow, we need to face it for it is only in accepting we will be freed.
