The Blanket

For months I had worked on this blanket, my gift to both of you on your wedding day.

I figured that it had taken me about 8600 minutes to knit the many different pieces  and in addition many endless hours of sewing them together.

My knitting friends said this is definitely a labor of love.  I could not agree more.  I would not have done it for anyone else except for my kids.

I remembered the first time I learned to knit a blanket I was confined to bed rest, on  doctor’s order, while I was pregnant with you. Now I made this blanket as the two of you joined as one in Holy matrimony.  What could be more fitting than a blanket of the double wedding rings, which is a symbol of two lives intertwining in marriage.

It is also a prayer blanket, a blanket that was not only made with love, but adorned in prayers.   As I spent each minute knitting, I had  prayed for the two of you.

The two of you shall love God with all your hearts, your souls,  your minds and strength, and that you love each other as yourself. ( Mark 12:30-31)

” Nothing living or dead, angelic or demonic, today or tomorrow, high or low, thinkable or unthinkable—absolutely nothing can get between you and God’s love because of the way that Jesus our Master has embraced the two of you.” ( Romans 8:38-39)

And you will know that–

God is gracious and kind and won’t ignore you—and He’ll welcome you with open arms all the time. ( 2 Chronicles 30:9)

You will continue to grow into the persons God has designed you to be. ( Philippians 1:6)

I also asked Him–

“… to strengthen you by his Spirit—and that Christ will live in you as you open the door and invite him in.” and “with both feet planted firmly on love, you’ll be able to take in with all followers of Jesus the extravagant dimensions of Christ’s love.  Reach out and experience the breadth! Test its length! Plumb the depths! Rise to the heights! Live full lives, full in the fullness of God.” ( Ephesians 3:17)

I also asked for His protection—

That when the two of you go through troubles, you will sense His presence.  When you face difficulties in your life, you will not be overwhelmed. When you walk through fire you will not be consumed. ( Isaiah 43:2)

And most of all:

I pray that you will not depend on your wisdom, and your own understanding, but will seek Him and acknowledge Him in all you do. ( Proverbs 3:5-6).

My children:

I will continue to stand in the gap for the two of you, and every time when you use this blanket, just remember you are being covered in prayers.
